Sergio surges, Gary Player shreds TOUR, Woods Mickelson on steroids

Well it certainly wasn’t Carnastie today as Sergio Garcia fired a blistering 6-under 65 to lead by two over Paul McGinley and three over reigning U.S. Open champion Angel Cabrera, 2005 U.S. OPen champion Michael Campbell and Boo Weekley. Eldrick T. Woods was tied for 8th after and up and down 69 that featured 12/15 fairways, 13 greens in regulation and 30 putts. Two-time winner on the PGA TOUR K.J. Choi is also at 2-under.

Meanwhile, someone thank Gary Player for calling out the tour and all the farcical nonsense Woods and Mickelson tried to feed us yesterday about steroids. Gary, you win the courage award for the day and are definitely inducted into the honor roll for having the nerve to do the right things.

Steroids are a scourge that must be fought wherever and whenever they are found.

Finally, here’s a great article by my Golf Observer colleague John Huggan. Also check out our Open Championship week long blog with Angel Cabrera! That recap is fantastic. He outdrove O’Hair and Sabbatini on 18 by fifty yards.
