Did Warren Sapp Slander and Libel Jeremy Shockey?

Warren Sapp is basically fotballs rejoinder to Charles Barkley: loud, ugly, and stupid. He’s great fr casual eyeballs and the “all-important” gang-punk demographic.

But Sap may finally have hit the chamber with the bullet in it. As a sports and entertainment lawyer, I deal with slander/libel cases all the time, especially when the information is disseminated over the Internet and through social media.

If it turns out that Sapp falsely accused Jeremy of being the Bountygate snitch, he not only should be fired, but could be sued and sued successfully and expensively. I know he’s a reformed jock, but the rules of slander, (not to mention professional journalism), apply to retired athletes too.

This is what happens when you dance with the devil. When you choose the lowest common denominator, in this case making a vulgar mindless thug into a broadcaster, you are vicariously liable for their torts. The NFL should suspend Sapp immediately pending the investigation. If he’s wrong, he should be fired. After all, what journalistic integrity does he have left? You can’t live on casual eyeballs and gang-punks forever..
