President’s Cup Matchups, football this weekend

Friday A.M. Alternate Shot

Foursomes is not a strength of Team USA. This format is all about chemistry between the teammates. Who can deal with it better when his partner knocks the ball behind a tree? Who can stay even-keeled in the middle of turmoil? This is not a fire and forget format. Every shot counts. The penalty for getting loose is not just on the scorecard, but also in the heads of the parthers.
1. Stricker and Mahan vs. Ogilvy and Scott – ROW, purely on the Aussie teammates being alot closer than two guys who found themselves teamed together.
2. Mickelson and Austin vs. Singh and Weir – USA. Singh and Weir just don’t blend well together. It’s mayonnaise on french fries…excuse me, freedom fries.
3. Cink and Johnson vs. Immelman and Sabbatini – Toss Up. Which Cink is gonna show up? The one who only plays well in garbage time or the one who misses short putts. Zach deserves a better partner. he could be a workhorse for this squad. Don’t ball and chain him to the Cinking ship. Nevertheless, Sabbatini needs to show me something in team play before I bet the farm on him. The South Africans are fomr the same country, but will they be able to calm each opther and rally around each other?

4. Furyk and Toms vs. Els and Cabrera – USA. Hey! I thought Tiger had first dibs on Furyk as a partner? Anyway, between the two of them, Furyk and Toms are so cool under pressure you could ask them to hold your limes and tequila and have frozen margaritas two minutes later.

5. Verplank and Glover vs. Appleby and Goosen – ROW. Scott may be a great guy, but I just don’t drink the Verplank Kool-aid when it comes to competition. I know he rolled through his singles matches inn the Ryder Cup, but again, where is the chemistry with Glover? Have they ever played together before? or was this one of the “scrambled eggs” pairings that came together because all the other kids got picked first.

6. Howell III and Woods vs. Choi and O’Hern – USA. Tiger is ITCHING for payback against O’Hern for the Match Play debacle this year…and a few years back. I’d love to see O’Hern and Woods in the Sunday singles. Player would be crazy not to play that card.

…and now for something completely different. FOOTBALL PICKS

I play two two-team teasers each week. We were a perfect 2-0 last week and 1-1 the week before. Remember, although you get to move the line six points in EITHER direction, you must get BOTH games correct to win the pick. Ties and we win. Home team in caps. So without further ado:

1. Jets – BILLS over 31 (What a great number) and Packers – VIKINGS over 32 another good number.
2. Steelers – CARDINALS over 35 and Patriots – BENGALS under 58-1/2.
