Jim Furyk – Player of the Year?

He’s won three tournaments including the Tour Championship, and he took home the $10 million bonus. Jim Furyk may have stolen Player of the Year honors right form under Dustin Johnson’s nose, although Matt Kuchar supporters are still grumbling about his chances.

You have to love Furyk. everyone says he has a calm demeanor, but they are wrong. He burns with a fire under the hood. He’s a gamer, a fighter, and a player. “If I’m gonna lose, I’m gonna go down swinging,” he told me after the U.S. Open at Oakmont. Now he has his biggest payday ever – $11.35 Million in one swoop. It’s not a major, but you can do a lot for the kids college fund with that.

Furyk washed away the bad final round at Whistling Straits with the win. Who else makes a case for Player of the Year? Johnson? He squandered both shots he had at majors, but he did win three times too. Still, Furyk’s wins shine brighter. Kuchar? He couldn’t close when he had the chance.

Let’s see what the Ryder Cup holds, but right now, Furyk is the leader in the clubhouse…and you can bet he won’t skip out early on the wards dinner should he win.
