Career Arc. I started out working on a small Military golf course on Fort Sheridan in Illinois. I then went to Turf School at SUNY Cobleskill. I got an assistant job at Bamm Hollow CC in Lincroft NJ and worked there for about 8 years. I got my first head super job at Bunker Hill Golf Course in Princenton NJ and worked there for about 6 years. I then came to Shackamaxon CC in 2014 as an assistant. I was moved to the head super at the end of the 2016 season. Funniest Calamity During Construction. Everything went very smooth with the construction and working with Toll Brothers. The must fun part of the hole project for me was that we had to remove and reroute a good part of our irrigation system. We had to remove over 100 heads and cap the lines to move out of the construction area. When the areas where done being worked in we had to go back and reinstall the heads. We also had to remove and reroute some main lines. We started this work in the early spring but as we where getting closer to summer we had to keep the system live to be able to water turf so the project got a lot more interesting. The funniest calamity of the construction project was when Toll Brothers started to bring in the water main for the new homes. The problem was Finding the water main. We had everything marked out and the day came to start digging. We started digging where the water company marked out for use to find the water main but of course NO Main. so it was a couple days of looking at maps, walking the area and digging test holes to find the location of the water main. Coolest new tech. We started about 3 years ago a less disruptive aeration program for our greens at Shackamaxon. We purchased a Air2G2 machine and a walk behind Planet Air machine. With the both of these machines we are able to improve the surface drainage of our greens and get air in to them with little or no disturbance and keeping the playing surface clean. Both machines where used at lot this past summer with all the rain we got. We where able to get the greens to dry out a lot fast then in the past years. I attached a picture of them working together on our 9th green. Way the course has been improved. With such a major project of building homes in the middle of the course we had to move and rebuild a couple areas to make it all happen and fit in. To start we had to remove the existing 9th tee and move and rebuild a new tee. The new tee is larger and lines up to the fairway in a much better location. The 2nd tee had to be rebuilt as the new water main went throw the back half of it. When it was rebuilt we made the tee large and raised the back half to a new higher level. This gave us more teeing area for a short par 3 and a new look for the tee shot in to the green. We also made the green larger and did some work to redesign the bunkers around the green. With working close with Toll Brothers we where able to take and use a lot of soil that they where digging for the basements of the homes. We used a lot of the soil to build mounds around the course and a new tee for the 5th hole. The old tee had an up hill shot to t long par three. When on the tee you could not see your tee shot on the green. So we used some of the soil to build a larger elevated tee. From this tee you can see the hole green and your tee shots. The biggest project for the course was designing and building the new 13th hole. We had to build a hole new tee area with 5 tees and the green and bunkers where all built after a Reef hole design from Tillinghast.
