Indy Pass Venue Soldier Mountain in Idaho Named U.S. Ski and Snowboard Training Ground

FAIRFIELD, ID – Indy Pass Venue Soldier Mountain in southern Idaho has been named a U.S. Ski and Snowboard Training Ground. As reported by the Boise Day:

The ski resort just inked a three-year deal with the slopestyle teams for the Hydro Flask U.S. Snowboard Team and the Stifel U.S. Freeski Team to host the inaugural training camps in December and late March….Slopestyle teams are comprised of skiers and snowboarders specializing in courses filled with obstacles like rails, jumps, and boxes. Athletes perform tricks and are judged based on factors like difficulty, style, execution, and amplitude.

Soldier Mountain has enlisted “world-renowned terrain park builder Charles Beckinsale” to design the training facility, which will be located underneath the High Trail Express Lift and include large-scale jumps. The partnership also allows Soldier Mountain to double its snowmaking capacity — providing top-to-bottom coverage for all visitors to the mountain to enjoy.

“This is a huge win for a small, independent ski resort like Soldier Mountain,” Soldier Mountain GM David Alden said in the release. “One of the things that makes Soldier Mountain so attractive is that we’re small enough to be nimble and eager to try new things. And U.S. Ski & Snowboard’s financial and philosophical commitment to a small ski area like Soldier Mountain will ensure we offer a sustainable domestic training venue for the world’s best snowsports athletes for many years to come.”

“Soldier Mountain has presented us with a unique opportunity to build world-class jumps in the USA at a time of year that will give our Slopestyle teams a huge advantage going into the competition season,” Hydro Flask U.S. Snowboard Team Sport Director Rick Bower said.

It’s supercool that Soldier is getting the close up it richly deserves. Long a local favorite of Idahoans and a wondrous setting in the same mighty Sawtooths that form nearby Sun Valley, it’s been getting an extra splash of exposure from Indy pass, which also features Tamarack, Brundage and Silver Mountain  in Idaho among others.

With a vertical drop of 1,425 feet from its 7177 foot summit and 36 trails spread out over a vast 1,180 acre expanse _______. 40% of Soldier’s trails are rated expert. Cue ’70s rockers Kiss:  “WHOO HOO…BLACK DIAMOND!” During the season, Soldier is open Thursday thru Sunday. Thursdays are reputedly empty except for locals. Founded in 1948 by Bob frostenson and Harry Dyral, the chairlifts the first chairlifts were turned by the power of a 1938 Chevrolet engine.
