Golf News: Liberty National gets Barclays, Oakmont has media day

Two bits of golf news today:

First, Liberty National, just across frpm Wall Street in New Jersey got their wish and landed the 2009 Barclay’s tournament.  Many of the old guard mourn the loss of Westchester from the schedule, but hey, the PGA gets much closer to the deep pockets of Wall Street.  Follow the money.  I reviewed LibNat (as she is affectionately known) here for AWITP and here for Cybergolf.  Despite looking good, the overly tight, Florida-looking design finished out of the top 10 in last years battles for Best New Private Course.  But they care more about hosting a pro tournament than anything else, so bully for them.  That being said, most players find nearby Bayonne far more endearing from an architecture standpoint.

Next, Oakmont held media day festivities.  Earth Golf has the skinny.  Look for my preview piece and my media Open Coverage from Oakmont in the coming weeks here and at Cybergolf.
