It’s here. Ski and snowboard season has started. Ropes are dropping, snowmaking is in full tilt, and many bog name resorts have already started spinning lifts.
And right on cue there is big news from one of the apex predators of the American winter sports scene. Jackson Hole celebrates its 60th anniversary season this year, and opening day is slated for December 4th. To honor the 60th anniversary, lift tickets on anniversary day, December 19, are just $60.
Better still, the mountain has released an excellent short film, “Jackson Hole: Layers of Time,” a brilliantly conceived narrative melding the history of the founding and building of the mountain with the geological history of the Grand Tetons.
“The real story is written in the ground beneath us. A ~9-million-year-old saga starring a mountain range that is still growing,” writes mountain PR maven Eric Henderson, one of the all-time best at on mountain communications. “As we celebrate our 60th, we would be remiss not to celebrate the fault line that produced our favorite fall lines. It is a tale of the Tetons’ geologic and tectonic wonder, the story of how our favorite mountain came to be, and how the unique terrain we love was shaped. Step into Layers of Time and experience the ascent of Jackson Hole Mountain Resort” The video is here. Go to Jackson Hole’s website for tickets to the season opener.
