2014 U.S. Open to be announced shortly

This week, the U.S.G.A. will release is choice of host site for the 2014 U.S. Open.  Pinehurst No. 2 looks to be a front running candidate.  Word is that Erin Hills will be looking to fill a spot shortly after with another eye firmly fixed on another Oakmont-Winged Foot one-two combo at about the same time.  2020 is reserved for Pebble Beach, should things remain the same for a decade.
Erin Hills looks to fill the Chicago-land void left by a number of rotated Open venues that have not been up to snuff.  Despite being told (yelled at) by ESPN in 2003 that “Get used to it!  Olympia Fields is coming back in nine years,” 2012 was awarded to San Fransisco’s Olympic Country Club and 2013 to Philly’s Merion.
