Steve Czaban on Pressel v. Wie

everyone keeps saying Pressel 1, Wie 0.  I have to keep reminding everyone that in my opinion is Pressel 2, Michelle 0.  Morgan won the U.S. Amateur as well a sa Women’s major.  Michelle is sold to us as a Lady Tiger, but she never won the Women’s Amateur…or the Women’s Jr., let alone three of each.

Czabe has come to the same conclusion:

Pressel WAS Michelle Wie, before the concept of Michelle “Oh My God She’s Only (Insert Current Age Here) Wie became the media darling who blotted out all reason and every other good LPGA story.

Morgan Pressel qualified – please note: Qual-i-fy: v: “To earn through merit.” – for the U.S. Women’s open at the teddy-bear hugging age of 12! She also scored MAJOR titles in the form of the North and South Amatuer, and the big one, the Women’s Am title.

Czabe hits several homers here.  First, Michelle Wie – for no reason other than publicizing this politically correct agenda of “women vs. men” – blots out every other story.  She’s more famous for being famous than she is famous for being a champion golfer.  Next, he hits on the issue at the heart of golf – Meritocracy.  Madison Avenue throws this and sanity under the bus every time she gets free passes she didn’t earn and has not shown any reason to continue.

Czabe then takes CBS to task for shamelessly conducting a phone interview with Wie, tacitly yet overtly supporting its politically charged agenda again as well as insulting the rest of the competitors by implying the tournament is somehow missing excitement or stature by her absence.  Would they have done the same with Pat Hurst?  Christie Kerr?  Birdie Kim?

Doublestandards, star systems, and too much greed are killing competitive golf.
