Serious Damage as Mother Nature Pummels Wild Dunes a Second Time

Lightning has struck twice in he same place.  Hurricane Hugo tore apart the seaside holes at Wild Dunes Golf Club on the Isle of Palms in S.C. in 1990.  Now wind and tides and their corresponding erosion  have once again destroyed part of the coastal holes at this Tom Fazio design on which Mike Strantz worked.  Part of the 18th green fellinto the sea and the hole has been redesigned as a par-3 with a completely new green.  From the article:

“At Wild Dunes, an already bad erosion problem is reaching critical mass. The Links course has built a second, permanent green inland on the 18th hole, turning the signature par 5 hole into a par 3 for the foreseeable future, said Jeff Minton, golf director.”
