Excellent news for fans of great golf course architecture comes out of Detroit today – Oakland Hills is discussing the possibility of hosting the 2020 U.S. Open with the U.S.G.A.

Oakland Hills is an outstanding course with a rich major tournament history. This page will take you to most of the body of my work from Oakland Hills for the 2008 PGA Championship. There are wonderful green contours and fairway undulations. The property is well routed so as to take the player into the teeth of the most dramatic natural features.

“I rank Oakmont number 1 and Winged Foot at Oakland Hills 1A,” said Jay Haas in a 2008 interview with your author. “It’s one of my all-time favorites and one of the best classic courses. We love going there.”

So here’s to the Monster. Let’s hope we get to see Oakland Hills once again. We always get a compelling event when we do.
