Mike Strantz’s Monterey Peninsula C.C. Shore Course stays in the AT&T Rotation

Outstanding news for fans of golf course architecture: Mike Strantz’s redesign of the Monterey Peninsula Country Club Shore Course will stay in the rotation for the AT&T through 2014. The other courses in the rotation are Pebble Beach and Spyglass Hill.

I love what Jack Nicklaus said about Pebble vs. Spyglass…”when I play Pebble Beach, I’m glad to be a golfer. When I play Spyglass Hill, I wish I went fishing…”

Anyway, both during tournament play and afterward, PGA Tour pros were thrilled with the Shore Course. According to quotes from the Monterey Herald, Phil Mickelson and Adam Scott – among many others like Jim Furyk – the courses was a welcome addition to the tour and a great example of excellent golf design:

“I like this golf course a lot. It’s now one of my favorites on tour,” said recent Masters winner Phil Mickelson. “I think Mike Strantz did a great job in his redesign of the bunkering, the greens, the holes, the layout and the playability of it.”

“Everyone I have talked to likes the Shore Course. It will certainly attract people to come,” Adam Scott said.
