Mickelson, Wie withdraw from respective tournaments

Phil Mickelson withdrew from the Memorial Tournament after 11 holes with a wrist injury. Sean O’Hair was -7 after twelve to lead by three as of 1:00 p.m.
Michelle Wie also withdrew today. She split from the Ginn open in Mt. Pleasant, S.C. with just two holes left in the day. She was a ghastly 14-over after sixteen holes. From the article on Fox Sports:

“After Wie bogeyed the par-4 seventh, the 17-year-old star from Hawaii told an LPGA tour official: “We’re not going to play anymore.” Her round included a 10 on the par-5 third hole.
She shook hands with her playing partners on the eighth tee and rode the cart back to the clubhouse with her caddie and parents.”

That has to be the shortest Michelle Wie article I have ever seen.

However once everyone got word of a little known rule that the LPGA adopted which says if any non-LPGA member shoots 88 or higher, they are banned for one year, the articles all got longer.  michelle of course denied that the rule was in her mind as she withdrew.

Just remember, she has earned all those special exemptions solely because of her winning the vaunted Women’s Amateur Public Links at “only 13.”
