Torrey the Prediction Cat, our intrepid NFL prognosticator had another rough week, going 3-3 for the week, 1-2 in teasers, sinking the young season’s tally to 75 overall, 24 in teasers. The Steelers defense actually showed up to play football instead of ballroom dancing, although they only managed to play 56 minutes. Better shore that up fast, black and gold. Pittsburgh – who only wins at about a 33% clip on the West Coast – defeated yet another under-achieving Chargers team. Then the Chiefs lost their second consecutive game at Arrowhead, this time to a mediocre Texans club.
Torrey better get his act together or this little experiment with him taking the reins will end and Ernesto the Prediction Iguana will step back into the spotlight. In the meantime, Here’s this week’s picks. As always we use the lines from www.vegasinsider.com and move the line six points in our favor since we do 2-team teasers. HOME TEAM IN CAPS.
***SINGING*** HAIL TO THE…NEVER MIND…
49ers -4 at REDSKINS
REDSKINS-49ers OVER 36
The Niners are the most improved team in the league. Garoppolo has proven to be their next elite QB, and the defense is starting to gel. Look out, NFC, the Niners are for real. Meanwhile, at least the Redskins beat the Dolphins. Sadly, Colgate University isn’t on the Washington’s schedule; D-3 teams are more their speed right now.
IT’S RIVALRY WEEK!
JETS-patriots OVER 36.5
vikings +6 at LIONS
The Patriots are an over team now that the offense is clicking. So are the Jets with Darnold at the helm. The Vikings not only look to keep pace with the Packers in the NFC North, but to keep ahead of the rest of the NFC in a potential wild card race. Kirk Cousins may not be Tom Brady, but he is consistent, and with a great defense, that can be enough to win.
OVER EASY!
LIONS-vikings OVER 38
PACKERS-raiders OVER 40
The Lions put up a heck of a fight in Lambeau Monday night, but it wasn’t enough. 38 seems low for two competent offenses. The Packers offense needs some more weapons, but the lack of defense on either side means a 40 O/U number is too low.
