Great story on Mark Wilson calling penalty on himself, then winning the Honda Classic

Who says there aren’t golf gods? Who says that the kharmic wheel doesn’t reward the virtuous or that nice guys will finish last? Mark Wilson called the most piddley two-stroke penalty on himself and was forced into a four man playoff. Why a two stroke penalty? Camilo Villegas asked his caddy what club he thought Wilson used. The caddy replied he thought that the hybrid was equal to a two or three-iron. Just being friendly, the caddy (not Mark…his caddy) volunteered that it was 18 degrees.

That’s a penalty for offering advice to another competitor. Mark called it on himself. Then he put his arm around the disconsolate caddy and told him to forget it, he had not even had a second thought about it.
Then Mark won in dramatic fashion. What comes around goes around. Here’s a great article about Mark’s magnanimous move. Mark makes the honor roll because he sets a great example for the rest of us and because he embodies the noble spirit of the game.
Its a far cry from a guy who asks fans to move a boulder or who rakes a green, is it not?
