Arguably the greatest build of the 21st century, architect owner Eric Bergstol designed an Irish-style links on an old waste disposal site overlooking New York harbor. Few people could manage the ludicrous permitting that seemingly never stopped but after seven years, 7,000,000 cubic yards of sand, and one impervious to liquids upside-down bathtub covering the contaminated waste perfectly, Bergstol and turfgrass expert Dr. Richard Hurley had Bayonne playing as fast, firm, and unforgettably as Lahinch, Bally bunion, or any of the other great UK links.
