Excellent David Barrett article on Golf Observer

David Barrett’s great article “Was Augusta too firm or too fast?” is up at Golf Observer.  Great stuff, David.

You can also get excellent coverage of the LPGA showdown between Lorena Ochoa and Laura Davies at GO’s LPGA Tour Notebook.

Lorena may overtake Annika as the world’s number one player and that is ENORMOUS news.  Most importantly, its nice to see drama at the top of each and every leaderboard on the women’s tour, not just another ho-hum Annika wins big event.  Fierce competition form a large number of players is making the men’s tour look less exciting when it’s just Tiger and four other guys on a rotating basis.  With Ochoa, Pressel, Gulbis, Creamer, Annika, Inkster and many others, the tour is set for an entire generation of compelling battles.  Things haven’t looked this bright for the LPGA since the days of Nancy Lopez vs. Jan Stephenson.

Dear Michelle Wie:  I know you made that “I think I’d just get bored” comment when you were young and foolish, but don’t you think the LPGA is exciting now?  Come on in!  It’s certainly a lot brighter future than years of 75-75, MC.
