Cybergolf running some pieces for “Year in Review”

No, I’m not part of the Writers’ Strike! You’re getting re-runs because Jeff Shelley over at Cybergolf picked out a few of his favorite pieces that I wrote this year for a loose sort of year in review retrospective. Happily, he picked some of my favorites too. So in no particular order:

Golf, Love and Sponge Cake – The U.S. Open Day 2

When the Hunter Gets Captured by the Game – A U.S. Open preview
John Daly, The Devil’s Golfer – Day 1 of the PGA Championship

Golf Becomes Bad “Land of the Lost” Episode

– and my favorite memory of the entire year! –

Bull Romps at Bulls Bay

You have to scroll down halfway to where the headline “The Bull is Loose!” appears. There I was…packing up my gear, pulling on a juice bottle waiting for the last few groups to come in so I could finish my interviews and go home to write when all of a sudden the staff grab me…

“Te Bull is Loose.” The thought refused to register. How the hell could the bull…tethered to a tree in the middle of the golf course…actually get loose. I must have misheard.
“What?”

“The bull is loose…”

Sure enough, you can see the tree by 16 green and “Titleist” was gone. He led us all around the front nine in a golf’s rejoinder to the slow speed bronco chase. We caught up with him on the eighth fairway after he sent Florida State and South Carolina players running for the nearest tree. Attaboy Titleist!

For the record, we’ll return to Bulls Bay for the Hootie as well as winging back to Oklahoma to cover the Maxwell NCAA Collegiate Tournament at Dornick Hills. See everyone also from Torrey Pines, Oakland Hills, Sawgrass and Valhalla for the Majors and for the Ryder Cup.
