Coming Attractions: St. George’s (USA), Paramount, Tallgrass, Gil Hanse, Prez Cup

LIKE THE 16TH AT ST. GEORGES IN ENGLAND, IF YOU DON'T PUT IT ABOVE THE FALSE FRONT ON THE 17TH AT ST. GEORGE'S ON L.I., YOU'LL ROLL BACK INTO THE BUNKER!

Though fall doesn’t begin until later this month, we here at AWITP celebrated the end of summer with visits to Paramount Country Club (formerly Dellwood) in Rockland County and St. George’s Golf and Country Club on Long Island.

We’ll be doing a series of articles on Paramount showing “The Architect’s Progress” – several articloes showing the beginning, middle, and end of an architect’s work in restoring a golf course. Paramount was fun. Kudos to Steve Lapper, Kyla Jones, and Brian Chapin for the day. You’ll be meeting them and architect Jim Urbina in articles in a few weeks for part one.

St. George’s was nothing short of exhilarating – a perfectly restored Devereux Emmet golf course – not just a shining star of a hidden gem, but a Silmaril, a beacon of light to show us exactly what great golf architecture looks and plays like. We’ll meet their team quite soon, as well as have an interview with architect Gil hanse about his work there and at Tallgrass, which is also on the short list for a review, along with fun, little Thendara, in the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains in upstate New York.

Finally, we’ll have a huge announcement soon for the President’s Cup, which I’ll cover for Cybergolf and the PGA.

So get ready for a slammin’ fall season! We aren’t putting the sticks away, and neither should you.
