Brian Keogh Gets GMac, Phil to Zing Tiger Woods Drives

A combined 200 yards…that’s a shocking stat for a guy who own his first Masters in 1997 with a bloated driving average of 323. Tiger hit a Baltimore Chop to the third baseman, then popped to shallow left in two drives yesterday at Doral and still played those two holes 1-over. Woods’s 74 leaves him tied for 34th with Phil, ironically. Brian Keogh of the Irish Golf Desk and Ireland’s AWITP correspondent has the story. From the story:

…Phil Mickelson, carded a 71 to finished the day tied for 34th with Woods on level par. And in common with McDowell, he had a hard time keeping a straight face after witnessing Tiger’s terrible tee shot at the second.

“It was difficult following that,” the left-hander said, barely disguising a smirk. “But it’s really not for me to talk about anybody’s bad drives.

I’ll talk about those bad drives though. Hey! Which is uglier? Those two drives or Mindy Lawton the Perkins waitress?

Graeme McDowell also took a few jabs as well:

Unable to resist a joke at Woods’ expense, McDowell said: “It’s pretty tough not to have a giggle. We all hit bad shots. Hit a couple of those in my time. You know Tiger actually hit two tee shots today, I would say combined didn’t go further than 200 yards.

“He hit that snap hook off two, which didn’t go further than 85 yards. And he hit a popup fly to midfield on 14 there which probably wasn’t about 120, max.”

Well at least Tiger has that grillion-dollar short game area outside his balcony where he can chip and putt in his skivvies. He’ll need it. With drives like that he’ll certainly won’t hold Number 5 in the World for 267 weeks.
