Great preview by Mark Caswell. You can read it at the Comets site here. The Wolves were the one team that scared me more than any other with their speed, tape-to-tape passing, and chippy-ness. They were unfazed coming into the Aud for two games, trouncing the Comets 3-0 and then bowing 4-3 on a late seeing-eye, bouncing puck that trickled over the goalie’s...

There’s an old adage in sports – so-called “miracles” actually happen with surprising frequency. This week at Augusta National was a textbook example. Jordan Spieth needs a wheelbarrow to haul away all the important records he broke or tied in the 79th Masters, including lowest opening 36 holes (130), lowest opening 54 holes (200), lowest 72...

If this were the Middle Ages, Tiger Woods choosing to come to Augusta National and play in the Masters while Rory McIlroy chases a career Grand Slam and third straight major would be akin to some potentate announcing his own public condemnation and execution as part of another King’s coronation. Or as they might have said back in my Dad’s day, “Hey...

April Fool, World! Utica is Back on Top By Jay Flemma, Special to Facewash Magazine UTICA, NY – If it’s an April Fools joke, it’s on everyone who ever kicked Utica when it was down: With a 5-1 smearing of the Rochester Americans on Wednesday and losses by Adirondack Flames, Toronto Marlies, and Hamilton Bulldogs over the next 24 hours, the Utica...
AHL PLAYOFF PUSH REDUX – WESTERN CONFERENCE by Jay Flemma, Special to Facewash Magazine It was the coldest winter in 157 years in the heart of the AHL, but that’s all behind them now. After setting two misery records – lowest average temperature in recorded history (7.2 degrees for the entire month of February), and most days in negative temps for...
FOREST HILLS, NY – Is Donald Trump truly as he is depicted by his detractors? A rapacious Gorgon? A ravening-fanged, slavering-jawed, leathery-winged, blood-stained ogre slaughtering his way through an innocent golf universe? Or is he a hero? A white knight, saving golf courses that would otherwise go under by swallowing them whole and re-branding them in his...
This one was a lot of fun to write. Streamsong, Seminole, and Old Memorial are next. Then it’s time for the Masters! Here’s the link to the Cybergolf article. From the article: Is Donald Trump truly as he is depicted by his detractors? A rapacious Gorgon? A ravening-fanged, slavering-jawed, leathery-winged, blood-stained ogre slaughtering his way through...

No Bobby, No Alex, No Problem! Comets top Marlies 5-2 By Jay Flemma, Special to Facewash Magazine UTICA, NY – There’s no I in this team, but there sure is a capital D, because despite losing All-star Bobby Sanguinetti and workhorse Alex Biega to the parent Vancouver Canucks, the feisty Utica Comets smothered the Toronto Marlies 5-2 last night at the Utica...
