Announcing Jay’s Plays – Ominous Seapods Vault Recordings

Something completely different from sports today…

Back in the mid-90s, while tapers were all still using DAT, I branched out and made a couple recordable discs for jam band legends Ominous Seapods. These were merely a couple live shows and a mix disc, strictly internal among the band and band family. We called them “Jay’s Plays” and they were a cute little thing, we had a few laughs, I got to play with a recordable CD player, and everyone had a good time.

Cut to 17 years later, and we have archive.com. Pretty cool! When I saw that the Pods might be a drop underrepresented with downloads online, yet still had the deeply devoted fanbase, (you guys rock), I thought this would be a great chance to get all you fans from across the country to get some of the epic old school NY shows from the formative years.

So I got in touch with Eric Budke and thanks to his help, we have the technology! Three new series of Jay’s Plays are in production: “Bogie Nights,” (shows from Bogie’s) “North Country Freakouts” (also self-explanatory), and “Scary Good”, (any guesses what that means? 🙂 plus a bonus 10th show “Volume X” will be released in a few weeks. All are right off the master DAT SBD, and all are from the terrific era of 94-95. Some of them are pretty rare! I’ll do notes to each show as well with remembrances from the band and friends. Some are historical, all are hysterical, and they all will hearken us back to the heady halcyon days of a nascent jam scene. Hopefully, if this goes well, we can do some more releases later in the year. Big thanks to Eric for doing the heavy lifting. If this goes well, maybe we can break out a few more.

I hope you guys are as psyched as I am, and it’s great to see all the love still shines.

First hint: Triceratops!
