A PGA Tour star we can look up to – Jay Williamson

Craig Dolch has this great article about my Trinity College Classmate Jay Williamson. While I made the golf team twice, he played hockey. Now he is going to make it through tour school for the 6th time in 7 tries, and I’m here in the office typing on a Sunday. Good onya, Jay!

Right now, as its squeaky-clean image lies in tatters, the PGA Tour needs clean-cut, forthright, hardworking types as role-models that people can look up to: enter Jay Williamson. When Jay and I were at Trinity, he was always looked up to as a great guy. He never caused any trouble, he ably mixed his social life with his academics and got great grades at one of the best schools in America, and he had the respect and esteem of both students and faculty, while having a reasonable amount of fun. There was never a snap, snipe, or sour note in four years.

I say we give Jay just a couple of Tiger’s millions and try him out as a pitch man. He’s the kind of role model the kids can look up to and he won’t need a phalanx of handlers, panderers, and enablers to keep it up. After all, when people can walk 360 degrees around you and there’s no dark side, that’s the person to choose as an icon and a hero.
