All seemed well. Until…
Ray Floyd stepped to the 6th tee and promptly carded nine 3s in a row on his way to a 63. Floyd held off a dogged Craig Stadler and won with a staggering 8-under.
Watch out this week. Someone is going to go low. Southern Hills is short, the rough is much more manageable than at a U.S. Open and the fairways are wide and receptive.
