Red Tail wins USGA award, Black Mesa piece for Golf Observer

Red Tail Golf Club by Brian Silva was awarded the 2009 Women’s Amateur Public Links.  Built on an old army base in Devens, Mass, just minutes west of Boston, the course is named for the Red Hawks which inhabit the site.  My detailed breakdown of the course is here.  My interview with Brian Silva is here.  Part 2 is here.  The article announcing the selection of Red Tail is here.

Hey!  Geoff Shackelford!  Score one for great golf course architecture!

Even the PGA pros love Red Tail.  “Red Tail is my favorite course in Boston” said New England pro James Driscoll. The Women’s Amateur Public Links became familiar lexicon to casual golfers when a 13 year-old won the event in 2003.

In an unrelated matter, I just turned in my article on Black Mesa to Golf Observer.

Hey!  Shackelford!  Make that score two for great golf course architecture.
