U.S. Open Sectional Qualifying Results

Big hat tip to Ryan Ballengee of Waggle Room for writing up all the results to the U.S. Open sectional qualifiers (except today’s in Texas).

Perhaps the most interesting stories came out of Rockville, Maryland, where Jason Gore, Ty Tryon, and Arjun Atwal all qualified out of a 78 players for 7 spots gauntlet at Woodmont C.C. Most fans remember Gore playing well for three days at Pinehurst in 2005 before he and Retief Goosen fell out of the sky and Michael Campbell stole the tournament. Campbell still has an outstanding warrant for highway robbery in North Carolina for that one. Meanwhile, Tryon was supposed to be a “can’t miss kid” a la Tiger Woods, but his professional career has been as much of a disappointment as his amateur career was a success. Atwal has made more headlines with his driving a car than driving a golf ball.

While Ben Curtis and Aaron Baddely qualified in Columbus, Ohio, 2008 U.S. open runner-up Rocco Mediate will be the first alternate.
