Fred’s Head – Couples’s Pairings for USA President’s Cup Team Underwhelm

Like Samwise Gamgee of Lord of the Rings fame, Fred Couples’s legs are too short, so he should use his head.

Then again, that’s not his best part either…

Couples appears to have hatchet-jobbed the 1st round pairings for the President’s Cup – creating milquetoast “strong-weak” pairings that seemed destined for bad chemistry.

Here’s what we got from Fred’s Head:

B. Watson-W. Simpson – Okay, but not Simpson-Mickelson, Or Simpson-D. Johnson. It does have the “God Squad” thing going for it though…

Haas-Watney – I know he won the FedEx Cup. Snore. Two young guys without guidance? I’m not sure.

D. Johnson-Kuchar – Botch job. Johnson should play with Simpson or Mickelson. They’ve played as a team before and won.

Mickelson-Furyk. Two great tastes that don’t blend. Furyk has one purpose, to play with Tiger as Tiger’s partner. Tiger was happy with that. Instead we get…

Woods-Stricker – Looks good on paper, but is that the extent of Fred’s Head? This has serious sinking possibilities.

Mahan-Toms. Yawn. I guess someone had to play with David.

This comes on the heels of a Norman gas pipe job in his pairings. Why are Ernie and Retief not together? Why are the pairings not based on country – so the chemistry is maximized? His best are Kim-Yang and Choi-Scott.

Anyway, my prediction fr this draw – INT’Ls 3.5-USA 2.5
