Tom Watson wins for the first time in Florida

This is interesting.  I did not know that Tom Watson went his whole life..up until this weekend…without winning a golf tournament in Florida.  The greatest links player the world has seen since Harry Vardon himself may not have found the aerial, stick the pin, penal layouts as much to his liking as the option filled strategic gems of the UK and Augusta.

Bloodletting at the Match Play

***UPDATE*** Holy smokes are O’Hern and Woods having a donnybrook!  O’Hern up FOUR HOLES…a lead I told a colleague was “insurmountable normally in match play” and now Woods looks to exact a nasty revenge…he’s still down one with five to play, but… ORIGINAL POST: Seven of the top eight seeds are out at the Match Play...

While the Oneidas still respond that all official statements about the dispute are addressed on their website, here, when I had discussions with media relations head Mark Emery, I told...

Memo from the Sports Desk: a FedEx Cup idea – stableford, match play and medal

The news that the PGA Tour may lose the International (and indeed a Denver tour stop altogether) is upsetting. The players and fans loved the venue and the unique scoring system was a welcome refresher to tired old medal play AGAIN. Anthony Cotton reports that one of the causes of the rift was the International’s unwillingness to become part of the FedEx Cup...

Michelle Wie, the Sony Open, Tony Luke’s, Eagles Fight Song, and Steroids

Let’s sop up the weekend sports au jus in Bullet Points today: 1. We’ll start with golf. Tadd Fujikawa ended his dream weekend and started his dream career with a terrific T-20 5-under performance at the Sony Open. The roars heard all over the course for the kid were reminiscent of a rock concert and the kid was grateful, humble and fun to watch the whole...
