Winter Golf – Red River Tour 2009

Well with -15 wind chills in NYC this morning, and worse still in store when I head to Siberacuse for the holiday, it’s time for golf in the south.

Instead of the annual Florida trip, this year it’s Texas.  Dallas will be this Pittsburgh Steelers fans base of operations, with the rock band Bowling For Soup, as it were.  Here’s the list:

Cowboys G.C.  (Jeff Brauer)  – this Dallas Cowboys-themed golf course is a local favorite.

Colonial C.C. (Perry Maxwell) – The restoration is supposed to be stunning.  Everyone who has seen the work has been thrilled.

Austin C.C. (Pete Dye) – One critic said this course will eat my lunch, especially the lakeside holes.

***Flemmapalooza II*** – Bowling For Soup vs. Jeff Brauer design at Pine Dunes (Jay Moorish)(.  This terrific resort has sandy soil, undulating fairways and greens, and old school shping and strategies.  It’s repouted to be a favorite of hardcore golfers and casual fans alike.  For those of you scoring at home, BFS and I lost our last Flemmapalooza matches 4-1 to Jim Engh design at Pradera G.C. in Colorado.

Oklahoma City G&CC (Mackenzie and Maxwell) – my personal fave of the trip (as of now) and even better than the more celebrated Southern Hills, host of many majors throughout the years.

G.C. Dallas (Press Maxwell)

I may take a stroll around Northwood as well, where Julius Boros interrupted Hogan’s U.S. Open domination in the early fifties.
