AUSTRIA’S BERND WEISBERGER HAD HS DRIVER TAMPERED WITH AT THE FRENCH OPEN, AS DID OTHER PLAYERS

Ryan Ballengee has this story about the surreptitious…and disconcerting…adjustment of Euro Tour players’ drivers while the clubs are stored for the night.

Ballengee reported that a number of players, including rising European Tour star Bernd Weisberger, had their driver settings adjusted while the clubs were stored for the night at Le Club National in Paris for the French Open. Weisberger took to Facebook to publicize the situation:

“Apparently a few clubs have been altered with this week. One of them looks to have been mine. Also, I do not think that it had any affect on the outcome of my round or score and I just hope this doesn’t happen to any other players this week or in the future,” he posted. Other players expressed that thoer drivers weren’t flying correctly. Equipment reps are checking settings as we go to press.

As Ballengee reported, at most professional golf events, equipment is kept in a storage room and access is limited to players, caddies and locker room staff. The same was true at the French Open.
