Within five days of each other, venerable Forsgate Country Club’s Banks course will host the 12th annual Writer Cup and welcome LPGA immortal Jan Stephenson for an exhibition.
The Banks course, the last course designed by the triumverate of C.B. Macdonald, Seth Raynor, and Charles “Steamshovel” Banks has hosted a galaxy of PGA and LPGA stars since opening in 1931, and Stephenson joins a long line of recent golf glitterati to walk its historic fairways. In recent years, Brad Faxon, Paula Creamer, Natalie Gulbis, David Feherty, and Gary McCord have all held court on the Banks course. Stephenson will host and clinic and then play a round at noon on Saturday July 20th.
Then later that week, it’s the 12th annual tilt between the best golf writers in NYC and Philly. Philly leads the series 9-3, btu led by Bill Fuller, Doug Smith, and Your Author, NYC took the title last year. Victory champagne tastes sweetest in Claret Jugs and Waterford crystal.
GNN and JF.com will be at both events with wall to wall coverage. Look for us all week.
