THE GORGEOUS BUT TREACHEROUS 13 EAST AT WINGED FOOT, OUR HOME NEXT WEEKEND AS WE COVER THE 79TH ANDERSON MEMORIAL FOUR-BALL

Special to AWITP by AWITP Correspondent Rodney Zilla

As we go to press today, the Utica Comets and Grand Rapids Griffins are finishing the early skate at Van Del Arena for Game 5 of the AHL Western Conference Finals. The puck drops at an unusual time – 5 p.m. Eastern, and that has us here at AWITP scrambling so we can get down to Tony’s on time.

It will be a busy next few weeks for everyone as the AHL playoffs are running headlong into the teeth of the golf season. This weekend, we’ll be live from Winged Foot for the 79th Anderson Memorial – for nearly eight decades the country’s greatest four-ball amateur championship. We’re writing our preview even now, and will publish it here and at Cybergolf.com in between Comets games. We will also write up the conclusion of the Comets-Griffins series, whenever that may be, either Tuesday or Wednesday night, before we head down to Mamaroneck.

No matter who wins the WCF, the AHL Calder Cup Finals kick off in Manchester, NH for Games 1 and 2 on June 6th and 7th. No matter who wins, Jay from AWITP will cover the series until June 16th, (a likely Game 6). After that, however, Jay will be out at Chambers Bay covering the U.S. Open for Cybergolf and the Golf News Network. Should the Calder Cup Finals go 7 games, AWITP will have a correspondent to be determined on the grounds reporting live. In the meantime, hockey fans, get excited for Winged Foot and the Chambers Bay U.S. Open. Golf fans, enjoy some more terrific hockey. As usual, thanks for all your support – the season has acquired a magical glow already, made even more fun by the fans response to our work this winter and spring. Hockey in June – it’s a beautiful thing…enough to make you miss a few tee times, but not at major championship venues:)
